Full Text:
Tempe, AZ - Nov. 2, 1998- Motorola Computer Group (MCG) today announced
the MVME2100, the first VME board to feature MPC8240 Integrated PowerPC®
Processor and a combination of PC·MIPTM and PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC)
I/O expansion slots. A new entry to Motorola's extensive line of PowerPC
VME boards, the MVME2100 is a high performance VME engine for use in cost-sensitive
applications. Additional features include 32 or 64MB of synchronous DRAM
(SDRAM), 10/100BaseTM Ethernet, 5 or 9MB of onboard FLASH, one front panel
serial port and leading real-time operating system support.
At the heart of the MVME2100 is the MPC8240, an integrated processor
with a PowerPC 603e core, a memory controller and PCI interface combined
in a single package. The benefits of this highly integrated microprocessor
on the MVME2100 include added real estate for on-board peripherals, lowered
cost, reduced power consumption and a simplified board design due to the
consolidation of bridge chips.
"Aimed at original equipment manufacturers in the telecommunications,
industrial control and command and control markets, the MVME2100 is a high
performance building block for real-time processing," said Staci Palmer,
PowerPC VME product manager, Cross Industry Business Unit at MCG. "OEMs
migrating from other low-end architectures now have a cost-effective choice
with the performance of a PowerPC 603e on VME. The MVME2100 is specifically
targeted to share the space occupied today by Motorola's extremely popular
MVME162 family," she added.
The MVME2100 features a combination of PC·MIP and PMC slots to
maximize I/O expansion flexibility. The PC·MIP is a new mezzanine
standard that combines the benefits of the small size of IndustryPack with
the performance of PCI into a module for embedded computer expansion. The
PC·MIP standard is co-sponsored by SBS GreenSpring Modular I/O,
Mikro Electronik Nuremburg (MEN) and MCG. The PC·MIP specification
is in draft form before the VMEbus International Trade Association (VITA)
Standards Organization. The specification is available in PDF format as
VITA 29 at http://www.vita.com/vso/stds.html.
In addition to three PC·MIP slots, the MVME2100 provides one on-board
IEEE P1386.1 compliant PMC slot and a mating connector to a PMC expansion
mezzanine for capabilities requiring more real estate. A complete catalog
of available off-the-shelf PMCs can be found at .
Pricing and Availability
The MVME2100 will be available in a variety of models scheduled for
early 1999 production and is supported with leading real-time software
environments. The 32MB version has a U.S. listing price starting at $1695.
The MVME2100 is backed by a 5-year limited warranty and is sold and supported
by MCG and its distribution partners worldwide.
